taught by Yoga Master Sri K. Pattahbi Jois

            of Mysore, India"

WHEN?       JANUARY 2, 3, & 4, 2009

'ALL LEVELS WELCOME...

NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED'

WHO?        Presented by EAGLE who is "Authorized" by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of the ASHTANGA YOGA RESEARCH INSTITUTE ( www.ayri.org ) in Mysore, India.  EAGLE, a former professional athlete, used yogic methods and practices to both enhance his performance and to heal from a major spine injury.  He believes that a "Deep Free Breath" is the MASTER KEY to health and healing.  A 20-year old yoga practice allows Eagle to share his insights in a clear and simple manner. Undertaking 5 pilgrimages to India, Eagle spent nearly two full years living in Mysore…the YOGA CAPITAL of the World.  Practicing at the feet of his guru/teacher Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of the ASHTANGA YOGA RESEARCH INSTITUTE for 3 to 6 months of each of the past five years enabled the transmission of the practice from guru/teacher to disciple/student.  Eagle runs a traditional Ashtanga Yoga School, PINEAPPLE YOGA, on the North Shore of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands.  Please visit his website bio-page at: www.eagleyoga.com or see his work at: www.pineappleyoga.com.

"MAHALO TO TSADA YOGA FOR THE 2ND INVITATION TO FLY IN FROM THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS TO SHARE THE MAGIC AND GIFTS OF YOGA. ALOHA AND BLESSINGS TO THE DALLAS TRIBE."

-Eagle

"Yoga, as a way of life and a philosophy, can be practiced by anyone with inclination to undertake it, for yoga belongs to humanity as a whole. It is not the property of any one group or any one individual, but can be followed by any and all, in any corner of the globe, regardless of class, creed or religion." - Yoga Master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India

"To learn how to achieve concentration, the body first must be purified, and then mental strength developed.  The method for purifying and strengthening the body is called asana. When the body is purified, the breath also becomes purified, and the diseases of the body are eliminated." - Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India

"There is no age limit for the practice of yoga and it can be practiced by anyone--by women, men, the weak, and by those who are sick or disabled." -Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the living Master of Ashtanga Yoga

More details on Friday’s session:

PRINCIPAL TECHNIQUES OF THE PRACTICE OF ASHTANGA YOGA:

Tristana -

1. VINYASA: breath and movement system

2. BANDHA: internal muscular locks (mula bandha, uddiyana bandha, jalandhara bandha) These contractions are intended to protect the spine and internal organs and control energy flow. There are three main bandhas involving three muscle groups: perineal, abdominal, and cervical (neck). Contraction affects nervous, circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, and energetic systems. Energetically, bandhas are used as means of untying granthis (psychic knots or blockages) which exist as tension, anxieties, repressions, and unresolved conflicts. Bandhas help control breath, and breath controls consciousness.

3. DRISTI: eye gazing-focal point

4. UJJAYI PRANAYAMA: The breathing technique performed within this practice which means "victorious breath". UJJAYI is an even, steady rhythmic breath that begins at the back of the throat with SOUND and the mouth closed. This cultivates an internal heat which brings about sweat for the purpose of detoxification.

THESE TECHNIQUES ARE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PRACTICE, MAKING IT A MOVING MEDITATION!

Eagle’s Recommendations

"It would be best for students to take part in ALL 4 SESSIONS, however much can be gained otherwise."

"Second best student choice would be Friday & Saturday sessions or Friday & Sunday sessions."

"ALL of the workshop will of course be the BEST pick!  Although if it is not possible... any student will be able to attend ANY session and be able to FOLLOW along just fine."

"I am used to working with students that do not know the Ashtanga system or that are NEW to YOGA in general. So EVERYONE will be met where they are........creating the "most safe" and FUN workshop possible!"
